A canned food drive hosted by the South Florida chapter of the Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society netted more than 7,000 canned food items and almost $1,000 for the Feeding South Florida food bank on Nov. 20. The chapter's second annual Thanksgiving food collection was held at America's Backyard in Fort Lauderdale. The drive, coordinated by former South Florida FOOLS chapter President and current trustee Mark Rossi, followed a devastating fire in Feeding South Florida's Fort Lauderdale warehouse in October that wiped out 93,000 pounds of food supplies. Approximately 30 chapter members, including the entire E-Board, participated in the event. The Broward County Black Pearl Pipe & Drum Corps also attended and played for the crowd. “It was a great event and we look forward to a long relationship with the food bank,” said Greg Zinkil, South Florida FOOLS vice president. “They were very grateful and even a bit overwhelmed with the amount of food that showed up. It will be able to help numerous families in the area.” The chapter plans to hold another food drive later this month.
