Please keep our chapter's president, Keith Bresnahan and his brother firefighters in Fairfax County in your thoughts. While operating at an apartment fire, a collapse occurred which trapped him and his partner inside the fire apartment, and threw his officer back into the hallway. While attempting to free his partner from the burning debris, Keith was hit by an additional roof collapse which knocked him through a window and off a balcony, falling from the 4th floor to the rear of the building...the link below is to the video and audio where you can hear Keith transmit a MAYDAY after his fall.
The good news is that he is doing ok (for the most part) with a few rib fractures and some minor spinal and ankle injuries. His partner was pulled out by the initial rescue company operating on the fire floor and RIT crew, and flown to the DC burn center as a precaution and is now home as well. 9 February 2010 07:56pm - Fairfax, Virginia |

It is with a heavy heart that notice of death is posted for a well-loved and respected member of Orlando Fire Dept. Lt Gerald T. Kasper, Tower 11 A has succumbed to his battle with Thymic Cancer tonight. Jerry has taught for many years at the Orland Fire Conference and has been a strong advocate for a good and solid fire service, a good friend and damn-good firefighter. Guys & Gals, I would like to ask for some help. Myself and many other people are starting a foundation foor terminally ill children. The foundation is called Ellie's Angels and we will provide pretty much any outdoor activity that a terminally ill child would desire. I am asking you for support to get this venture up and running, in the form of ideas for hunting areas throughout the country, to money to products. As many of you may have heard, two Modesto, California, firefighters were seriously injured on the job when a roof collapsed underneath them. Engineer James Adams and Firefighter Jim Clevenger suffered serious burns. Clevenger was taken to Doctor's Hospital in Modesto with burns over 10% of his body. He is now listed in good condition, but was moved yesterday to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for more thorough wound care. Adams was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center and put into a medically-induced coma, which will allow his body to rest and begin to heal itself. He continues to be in serious but stable condition and is showing signs of improved respiratory function. His burn percentages were upgraded to 45% of his body. It is expected that he will receive additional medical treatments on Friday.
Area firefighters who are also burn survivors will be meeting with the family to share their experiences, and to assist them with negotiating through the maze of medical care options. A website has been developed for Engineer Adams, which will provide a forum for the family to share information and updates with everyone, and to provide an avenue to deliver messages of support and hope to James. The address is: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/jamesadamst5/guestbook/sign.
Please take the time to visit the site and offer your support to Engineer Adams and his family, and to Firefighter Clevenger and his family as well.
