It is with deep regret that we advise you that 1 of the 2 Firefighter/Paramedics with the Douglas County Fire Department that were injured late Saturday, has now died in the Line of Duty. Initial reports are that they were responding emergency and a civilian did not yield, failing to pull over. As the ambulance tried to pass, the car reportedly turned in front of the emergency vehicle, resulting in the crash. Our condolences to all affected in the tragic Line of Duty death of FF Paramedic Paul D. Holms, 37.

If you have a moment in your day would you all say a prayer for Lt. Jerry Kasper of the Orlando FD and his family. Lt. Kasper has a very, very aggressive cancer that at one point he had a few years, then a few months, and now has taken a turn for the worse. Please keep Jerry in your prayers. Some of you have seen Jerry teach at the Orlando Fire Conference doing roof cuts. He is assigned to Tower 11 which is on the east side. Thank You!

Happy Birthday to Sippy and his big ears. I yelled it this morning like Paul Revere riding through the night shouting the British are coming. Thank God for your ears because I know you heard me with my gimp leg. Happy Birthday brother.

Guys and Gals,
Most of you know that my 6 year old niece has cancer. We found out today that it is terminal. Ellie loves hunting and fishing, so as I sat in my tractor all day, I came up with an idea. I would like to start an organization called Ellie's Angels to help other terminally ill kids to have the opportunity to take that one last hunting, fishing or camping trip. I am asking you ALL for any ideas and suggestions on how I should go about getting this started. I want to see it as a local thing meaning Nebraska and Kansas but in the future moving out to be nationwide. I need help with ideas. Please email me or if you have my number give me a call.

Please pass this on to anyone that may be interested. We are trying to build the Wichita HOT every year, and we are looking for anyone interested in giving lectures and/or hands on classes. Depending on the circumstances, our FOOLS OF OZ chapter can probably afford hotel rooms for speakers/instructors, but probably not much more than that. Please read the information below, and we hope to bring in people from all over the country again in 2010. Any questions, please contact me.

Wichita HoT 2010 is looking for new instructors with new ideas!

For the last three years Wichita HoT has provided the most advanced fighter training in this region hosting over 500 firefighters. This is your chance to become a part of HoT. In 2010, Wichita HoT will be introducing 2-hour classroom sessions on Saturday. Any members that are interested in instructing one of these sessions should submit a course outline to the HoT Development Team in care of Division Chief Wenzel no later than January 29th.

The mission of the Wichita HoT Regional Fire School is to deliver high quality, advanced, “hands on” training to the Kansas Fire Service. To accomplish this all training delivered as part of the Wichita HoT shall be:

o Hands on or applicable to street level firefighters and Company Officers

o Not for profit and kept as inexpensive as possible

o Should remain in the Wichita area under the direction of the Wichita Fire Department

o Training will be kept as realistic as possible

o Participant and Instructor safety will always be the top priority

The Palm Beach County Firefighters Pipe and Drum Corps will be heading up and organizing the 42nd. Annual Delray Beach St. Patricks parade on March 13th, 2010. This will be a historical parade for Florida firefighters. Each year the parade organizers attach to the parade, a theme. Next years parade theme will be “Firefighter Appreciation”. With the parade title: “The Firefightin Irish”. There will be many fire service items of interest going into this parade. Multi-agency fire service Honor Guards carrying the flags. Multi-agency fire service Pipe and Drum bands from Florida, as well as from around the country, and internationally - playing together as a “Band Of Brothers”, this will include the Dublin Ireland Fire Brigade Pipe Band who graciously accepted our invitation to come all the way from Ireland to march with us. Uniformed marching firefighters. Antique as well as front line apparatus. Dalmation dog clubs / owners who will march their dogs and display them on apparatus. Firefighter motorcycle riders with fire helmets riding as a pack. Professional / certified fire clowns. Fire service floats. Civilian floats. 20’ X 30’ flags that will be hung by multi-agency ladder trucks at key points along the parade route. Pre-parade and post parade parties. There’s a lot more going into this parade that will make it the fire service parade of all parades.

The Palm Beach County Firefighters Pipe and Drum Corps would like to extend an open invitation to Firefighters of all nationalities from everywhere and anywhere, career, volunteer, retired, to march or take part in this historic parade. So break out that Class-A uniform, march with it, and wear it with pride. These will be photographs you’ll want to give the grandchildren. For more information that will be continuously updated between now and parade day, or if you’d like to help out in any way, please go to http://www.iaff2928.com or call Captain John Fischer (561) 883-7763
